MLC and Exchanges

This past week has been an amazing week! We had MLC this past week
that was really uplifting and educating. We had quite a few lessons
with our investigators and so far they are all stuck at this point to
where they can not take a leap of faith at the moment. But we have
seen the spirit touch their hearts and little steps are being made. I
had the chance to go on an exchange with Elder Hilario, he came out
with me and he got to skip the MTC because he is from here. His family
is in this Ward right now haha but it was an amazing experience
getting to learn from him and receiving some counseling on how to help
them and improve.

Norma's Baptism

This has been an amazing week! So to answer my mom's question Norma
was baptized on Saturday and I was able to go and baptize her :) that
was an incredible experience!
Within my own area we had some exchanges and I was able to go with
Elder Sheffield and go to an English area for the day, it was kind of
weird, but we did get to talk to many people and so that was awesome!
The next day we had Zone training meeting and interviews with
President Slaughter. I gave a training on chapter 2 of Preach my
Gospel and how important our studies and planning sessions are for our
investigators. It went really well, I used a track analogy to help
describe it haha as always we get to do service on Tuesdays and
Fridays and it has impressed me that the main employees that we work
with at the San Antonio Food Bank trust us so much do things right
haha but in world it is the same for members. We are unique in that
sense.

Area Repeats....

It is so wired being in one of the same areas, well kind of. 10th ward
is the English Ward that I covered about a year ago. Now being in the
Spanish Ward it is weird because I see people I know but I'm not in
their ward haha so right now it is just me and my companion in this
apartment that we are living in. Elder Burdge has been out six weeks
less than me so he goes home very soon as well.
This week has been crazy!! We have done 3 exchanges and have been
almost everywhere in the zone for some reason or another. I got to go
to Lackland Air Force base yesterday because we had to interview an
investigator for his baptism. So that was pretty cool! The senior
missionary who drove us onto base looked like a 1970s government
worker haha it was great! We have had a few good lessons this week
with some of our investigators. We taught the Sanchez family about
temples and we were going to read from a talk by President Monson but
then it turned into a discussion about God and how Him, the Son and
the Holy Ghost are separate beings. And we read scriptures that relate
accounts of people seeing God face to face and we could tell that she
was having a hard time understanding that haha but when we did talk
about the temples they were really excited about them.
Another exciting thing is that we got the Area book planner app. So
now we are entering in all the records that we have and they will all
be digital. And sometimes I am wondering if all the headaches are
worth it haha

Las Palmas!

So I am now in Las Palmas which is the Spanish ward here in the San
Antonio Texas stake and I am now companions with Elder Burdge. The
last few days have been great! We have had quite a few lessons and we
have been able to go do some service! Every Tuesday and Friday we go
to the San Antonio food bank and wee do some service for them, this
last week we did some sorting of all the different cold foods that
receive from donations. We did about 11,000 lbs of food and provided
over 6,000 meals.
So a little bit about the area. I cover the same ground that I covered
when I served here in 10th ward about a year ago but now I am in the
Spanish ward. I have flashbacks all the time haha
The few lessons we have had are solid families that are progressing
towards baptism and have those desires to do so. I am really excited
about this transfer! Oh as well we are getting the area book planner
app today that will be quite the change!

Last Transfer!

So we got our calls last night for transfers.... I will be getting
transferred on Thursday!! Not sure how I feel about it but it will all
work out!
This week has literally been crazy! So Elder Holt has some health
things he has to get taken care of and so he went home on Thursday. We
dropped him off at President Slaughter's house Wednesday night and boy
was that fun! Ice cream and a gospel discussion with President, mind
blown! But that was pretty sad about Elder Holt and for the week till
transfers I am in a trio with the mission creek elders. With them I am
at 16 companions for 17 transfers and I will get my last one this
week.
All the District leaders were invited to MLC( Mission Leadership
council) so that was sweet!!
Norma came to church on Sunday and so she still has a date set up for
the 18th of July.
I got to go onto Fort Sam Houston twice this week because I am with
the mission creek elders and that was a lot of fun! Got to go to
church and that was really cool! I am looking forward to what awaits
me in my 7th area and so I will tell you about next Monday!

Hace Calor!

This has been a great week!! To start off Norma came to church, after such a long time she came and has a date set for the 18th of July! We are really excited and after coming to church she has a little more motivation! Speaking of which we had a meeting early in the morning before church and after the meeting one of the Branch counselors asked if I could fill in for someone who couldn't make it. Thirty minutes before church starts haha buy was that interesting! As well this week we have had some fairly good lessons with some investigators that are somewhat progressing.
Something I want to share is the importance of the family. The family is crucial to God's plan and for our eternal progression. God's laws will always be the same and we can either follow or not follow, but we have to realize that eternal laws are becoming more white while the world's become darker and darker.

Jumping into Technology as a Missionary

This has been a pretty great week! On Tuesday we had a iPads conference and we learned how to use the iPad to study and teach, mind blowing!! We learned how make tags and make different folders for things that we are studying and how to make lesson plans on the Gospel Library app itself. Then we learned how to use the pamphlet app and so
trying to use that instead of paper will be interesting haha  We had some good lessons this week. And a temple trip flopped as well.  We are going to have reschedule Norma's baptism :( she gets sick all the time and so she never comes to church. As well this week a member
from out of town was here for a teacher conference and requested for missionaries to stop by and give her friend a blessing. So we had to go to the hotel and the whole thing was a little weird. We taught the Martinez family again and the mom has been reading a little bit and so they have told us that they really want to learn and come to church so that is exciting!  On Saturday we were suppose to have a temple trip for investigators and less actives but we had to cancel because of rain and because only two other people were going to go. Another day. I can not believe how fast time has flown by. Less that 2 months so I can now say I have less months than you have years to all the new missionaries.....

I know that God lives and that Christ is our Savior and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is God's Kingdom on earth.

Interesting FHE's

So this has been a great week! We had a few great lessons and a few promising investigators. We drove up to the most northern part of our area, MILES! We taught this lady who had met with missionaries before but we don't know why she stopped meeting with them. The best part of the week was last Monday when a family called us to invite us to a FHE with them. The FHE was for their son's lady friend who had asked some questions about the church and so they invited her over so that we could talk about it. It was interesting at first haha we realized a few things during the lesson that made it hilarious afterwards. But she was very open the whole time. We also had an exchange the zone leaders and I got to be with Elder Tovar who took my place when I left Boerne. He is from Mexico City and he is speaking English here and he speaks very well :) we had a great day together and I learned a lot from him.

A great week

Hello everyone! This week has been an awesome week!we got our iPads this week and it has been pretty cool learning how to use them :) this week we has a great  lesson with N and right now she has a date for the 4th of July. We got to go to Martindale to help out with the flooding that to place last week, with in half an hour the water from the Rover hada risen over 30 feet and many mobile homes were taken down the river.

We have a few new families that we are teaching and so this week will be great!!  And we got news and pictures from Jessica's wedding... she was my first baptism. :)

New Companions

This week I received my new companion Elder Holt from Sandy, Utah and he is awesome!! He Is a very happy and excited missionary and I am looking forward to working with him this transfer. On Sunday N was confirmed and she is doing great!  Everyone else has been kind of slow this week so this next week can only get better. We are getting our Ipads this Thursday so we are all ready for that :) I will actually be able to send pictures to yall starting next Monday :) And recently we have been dealing with a lot of storms and craziness. This Saturday our stake has been aske to go help the city if Wimberly and repairing damages and so there is a lot of that. I heard that Boerne was hit pretty hard :( homes destroyed, cars floating down the street and things like that. I hope yall have a great week!

A Baptism in Highland Hills

So this was a crazy week!!!! We had a great conference with Elder Allen and Elder Evans of the Seventy this week on being servant of the Lord in a digital age and so this upcoming transfer we will be receiving Ipads. Oh yeah and transfers are this week!! Elder Christensen is going to the border to be Zone leader and I am staying here and receiving a new companion.

So Saturday was the baptism of N and it was great!!!! :) first and last time I will see a 8-month pregnant women get baptized haha afterwards it started raining like mad and lightning and thunder. We lost power in our apartment for the whole night and then on Sunday we had to go to church in Windcrest because we didnt have power in the chapel so that was a blast :) We have had a great week and I look forward to the next transfer :)

What an awesome week that we had!! N is going to be baptized this saturday at 7pm so we are really excited about it! She is excited, and so are her in laws haha she has been reading over the pamphlets and reading so she is prepared. she is still super pregnant though so we are going to have to fill the font really high to help her out with that. We had another great lesson with No with week and the P's. sadly she told us that she does not feel ready to be baptized (she has not even come to church yet) but she is still reading and praying. We are going to talk about the word of wisdom with her which is one of the reasons that she does not feel ready( she just does not know it).

funny story for the week. we went to visit with N earlier in the week and they happened to be at an interview. But there had been this cat that had been run over in the road that was still alive and to spare the details it caused me to pass out. all of this while I was on exchanges haha :) great week!!!

Lots of lessons this week...

Well this week we have some awesome news! A family in our ward who's daughter in law is not a member wants to get baptized!! Her date is set for the 23rd of May. She has been coming to church regularly and has received most of the lessons so now we just have to go over it and make sure she understands! The interesting part is that she is 8 months pregnant and so that will be an interesting baptism.

Norma and Yuliana still have not come to church. Yuliana is working like crazy at Walmart and Norma has been having health problems so we are working with her on that.

We went up to Cibolo again and had a lesson with the Cabreras. It went well.... Sister Cabrera is fighting her self right now. She thinks that the Catholic church is wrong and that there is a lot of things that are not right, but then at the same time she believes her baptism was valid..? I do not understand the logic behind that. But we will be meeting with them again this week.

Kind of a funny story this week. We were visiting with a less active couple and she started talking about dreams and things she was seeing(and for those of you who do not know, Hispanic people are know for having experiences quite frequently) and she told us that she one time saw a shadow on her front door and when she was describing it, it sounded like Darth Maul. Then to make it better she had drawn it on the door in pencil. And it was still there.

A slow week with no pictures....

So this week was kind of slow. We went on a few exchanges this week with other missionaries in our district and it was great! On Tuesday I had a different Elder Christensen with me and he does not speak spanish haha but he did not mind. We had a lesson with Norma and it went very well. The members that came with us were a great help ( members do so much!) She is still thinking on baptism and is still reading. She had just read Ether 2. And as always whenever she reads anything she always, always pulls something out and thinks it is talking about end of the earth or the second coming. So we had to explain that to her and then we continued on with the lesson. Elder Christensen did an amazing job! (the lesson was in english) the only sad part is that she did not come to church :(

Yuliana has been working a lot and so there has not been much contact with her.

We had an exchange on Thursday as well and Elder McKay came to the area with me and we had an okay day. We stopped by José while he was making his tacos and man that was good!! 

A few fun stories

1. We got a brand new car a few weeks ago. A 2015 Toyota Corolla, red. And it is sweet!

2. a few weeks ago Elder Christensen had an job interview over Skype( it was approved) and Elder McQuinn and I were asked questions about him haha it was great!!

iPads are coming to TSAM!

So this last week was filled with a bunch of different things. Zone meeting, district meeting, exchanges and a few lessons. First off we met with Yuliana again this week and there has been a lot of different things going on with her. It is hard to meet with her because of work which has all the time. She says she will go to church but never does because her work calls her in to fill someone. And so her baptism will be pushed back.

We have not been able to meet with Norma for a bit. From what she has told us she loves reading the Book of Mormón.

I went on exchanges with one of our zone leaders; Elder Graham. We had some very good lessons and a youth that is not set on baptism.

Exciting news for the whole mission, we will be meeting with a few members of the Seventy in a few weeks in a meeting that is called "Disciples of the Lord in the Digital Age." I am sure yall can figure that one out :)

But we were told about the condition of some of the Apostles and so please keep them in your prayers!!

USA vs. Mexico... go USA!

So this week has been somewhat of a slow week. We were able to meet with N this week but she did not come to church :( but she is loving the Book of Mormon!!

Highlight of the week was that a less active family that we have been working with came to church yesterday and so that was awesome watching them walk into the chapel!! They have been going through a lot of things that they have not made know to us but they finally came!!!

Moments for the week. Mexico came and played the U.S. in the Alamo Dome which happens to be in our area and so that was an exciting day for everyone. Our Branch mission leader and his family were watching it and our whole branch was going for Mexico even if they were not from there. We passed by the stadium and they were tents everywhere and Elder Christensen and I  were being tortured with it all. but we found out that the U.S. won 2-0 so we were excited about that, while everyone else was depressed. That is about it for the week. I love y'all!!

Transfer news....

So the news for this upcoming transfer is..... Elder Christensen and I are staying here in Highland Hills and Elder McQuinn will be leaving :( We are sad to see him go this Thursday but we know that he will continue to do amazing work! So after more than a year and a half I am finally explaining transfers in case I have not already. So Sunday night we get called by either President Slaughter or the Assistants and they tell us whether we are staying or leaving. That Thursday we meet at the North Stake center to have transfer meeting. This is where we meet all the incoming missionaries and then they have call outs. They announce the area, who is already there and who is coming in if anyone. Then there is another meeting up in Austin. So there you go haha other minor details are that we will not receive another companion and we do live by our selves. and we cover the whole East Stake for the Spanish Branch. Which by the way all three of us gave talks yesterday in Spanish so that was interesting haha!

This week was interesting. We had stopped by a part member home and were speaking with the non-member husband and he received a call from his daughter. he told her that we were with him and he handed the phone to Elder Christensen and she got around to telling him that she wanted to be baptized. Miracles do happen. We met with her that night and she told us everything that was going on and that she had been thinking abut this for about 2 months now. She had spoken with her mom (member) about it and finally made the choice. Things have been going back and forth now but there is still hope!!

N is still doing really well. She has been reading and loving everything! We are meeting with her tomorrow.

Fun thing for the week. One of the guys that we are working with; J. He makes tacos for a bunch of people on Fridays and we get them for free. I think his little set up his hilarious because it is so...mexican... haha he cook his tortillas in lard on a stove and has a seperate cooker for the meat. Which he then cuts with a huge knife on a slab of wood (like a slab that was just cut from a tree) and then he has all the salsas and condiments. The meat was sooo good!

Another funny thing is we have a Part-member family and the little girl in the family speaks tex-mex. For example: " Quiero un book." or " tengo hot" it is so funny listening to her haha

General Conference was awesome!

What an amazing weekend!!! I got to listen to conference in Spanish which was awesome!! There were a lot of amazing talks given. One thing that I have found very profound throughout my mission is how IMPORTANT the resurrection of Jesus Christ is. My mom sent me an article about the Holy week and at the end at the bottom there was a note that pointed out that if the Bible were to end with the burial of Jesus Christ there would be no good news to have.  Our progression would stop at death and we would be lost forever.... How glorious is it that we are loved by our Heavenly Father and Savior enough to provide that.

Things that have happened this week. On Wednesday Elder Christensen went to a mission wide District leader meeting and so Elder McQuinn and I were put in other areas for a few hours. I was with another Elder Christensen and we did some walking and biking. The problem was that his companion accidentally took the phone....and so we were guesstimating on when they would get back. I did not get picked up till almost 5pm and we did not get Elder McQuinn back till we had gone in for the night. Oh and the day before we had been on exchanges with Elder Goodman, so there was 4 of us! Hijole! but we had a lot of fun and Elder Goodman and I walked around for a little bit and we were able to have 3 lessons that night. 

As of right now we do not have anyone set up with a date, but we do have , who loves meeting with us and loves 3 Nephi. Other than that we are just bracing for the summer heat, one more to go!

Happy Pascua!

Happy Pascua!!! This last week has been everywhere! To start off Oscar Cruz Jr. was baptized on Saturday, but it was crazy! We got to the church at around 2pm or so to start setting up and filling the font so that it could start at 3pm. At 2:30 our investigator Norma shows up so that we could give her a tour of the church. Admits all of this it is about 10 minutes till and people are showing up and the Cruz family still has not arrived. Long story short we had about 70 or so people (mostly family)

come and the baptism did not start till almost 4pm. But it happened. His uncle baptized him and confirmed him and gave him the priesthood on Sunday. Now we just need to help his dad!

So the subject of this email came from a guy we talked to this week. He sounded atheist, and he could not grasp the concept of spiritual promptings. Basically that conversation ended up being pointless haha.

Mucho Exito!

Hola a todos!! I hope this week has been awesome!! It has been for me!! We had a lot of lessons this week with much éxito! Hno. Z (the one who is trying to stop smoking) has been doing well. He is going to be working and so that will help him to keep his mind off of it. As well we had a zone meeting this week and that was a lot of fun! As well we had a lesson with a lady named N who is very excited to learn more. Everything is making sense and we talked to her a few days later and she told us that she has really enjoyed what she has been reading :) 

O was at church this week and is going to be baptized this Saturday. We went over the Baptismal questions with him and he understands them all so he is ready! This week we are excited to make progress with many people! :)

Love My New Area

So this last week has been really busy. We taught about 11 other lessons this week (helps to have 3 ;) One that we taught was with a senior in high school named J. We really touched on gaining a testimony and recognizing answers for the spirit. He told us that he believes that is all true. So we took a quote from another missionary and told him that it all depends on you. " What's it gonna take?" he understood it very well and understands what he needs to do.

We had a lesson with this lady named S and her two kids and it went very well. She told us that she sees that there is false doctrine being taught and that she has been searching and so we are very excited to work with her.

As well we met with O who is set to be baptized on the 28th of this month. He is very mature and understands what he is going to do. 

We are helping a member to quit smoking and so that is going well so far. Very nice man and so it is fun teaching him :)

Oh details on the branch. We start church at 8:30 in the morning. Sometimes 8:40 because people do not get there on time. Very nice people though! But we have a huge area!!

Highland Hills Spanish Branch

Bienvenidos a Highland Hills!!! I am now in a spanish área that covers all of the east side of San Antonio! And my companions are Elder Christensen (The same one that I was in the CCM with) who is from Delta, Utah And Elder McQuinn from Palo Alto, California. I am so excited for this upcoming transfer. We have so much área to cover it is crazy! Right now there is a baptism planned for the 28th of this month for a boy named O. He is 12 years old and his mom is a member. We taught him yesterday and then the day I got here we taught HA from Honduras and went over the need for baptism. We have met with a few others since then and I am still trying to get all the names down haha It is really weird to be in a branch that is really small. I will have more details next week! Hasta luego!

Transfer News!

Drum roll please!......... Elder Grosh will be staying and I will be leaving and I am being put in a trio! So I will know where I am going on Thursday. I really do not know how I feel. I have come to love the people here and so much work has been done. But I know that I have grown because I get frustrated with people we are teaching when they do not keep their commitments( and from the amount of stress I can tell that it, is because I love them)

This week we had a few good lessons. We met with the V again and finished the Plan of Salvation with TA. It went very well and they are doing great!

We have a new investigator; M, he has a friend that lives in St. Luis that has been working on him for a while and he has come to church a few time and we had a lesson with him in Saturday with our ward mission leader. He already knows so much about the church and so it will be very exciting to see what happens with him!

I have truly enjoyed my mission, I love it!! I know that God lives and that he truly loves us. He sent His son; Jesus Christ, to atone for our sins.

Zone Conference

This week has been an interesting week. We had a zone conference about these things called "black boxes". The real name is Tiwi by Inthinc. They were put in all the cars in the mission.

It has been somewhat of a stress filled week. Understanding people can be so hard and it has been hard to understand people this week.

We had a lesson with the L family and share the videos on light and truth on the Doctrine and Covenants DVD's and how reading, praying and coming to church helps us gain light to understand eternal truths. And prayer was a big topic with them. And it was a very tender moment and the spirit had a very strong presence.

We also had a lesson with a man named "S", who is a big cyclist. He understood principles that other people do not, and so he understands that he does need to read and pray and that it is a big claim that we make of being the only true church.

Singles Ward Escapades

This week has gone very well!!! We had Stake Conference this last Sunday and it was great!! I went on an exchange with one of our Zone leaders; Elder Wilson. And so I got to work in a singles ward for a day haha that was great! we had a crazy night! We had a few church tours scheduled and one of them did not happen and so we went to the apartment complex right behind the church and started talking to people and the second person we talk to wants to know about the church and accepts an invite to do a church tour right then and there. So we go back to the church and start her tour and right at the end the other two people taking the tour walk in and it is already crazy inside the building with activities. So we just combined the two tours and finished it off and got return appointments and commitments to read the Book of Mormon. That was probably the most happy that I have felt in a long time. God places people in our way and he does provide! We then had an incredible experience on Saturday and Sunday. it goes as follows: We were searching for an address on this one street called "watchtower" And we passed by this family that we were going to stop by right after. The address did not exists and so we were turning around and the mom of the family is walking up to us and tells us " If you do not have a dinner tomorrow you are welcomed at our house tomorrow night" and so this is where i started thinking about the saying of how everyone freaks out because mormons are so nice, well missionaries freak out when non-members do the same thing!haha and so we return Sunday evening and it was so cool!! The "L" family was having their kids friends over as well and they were just popping in and out, but what was amazing is that Sis. L told us that they have a lot of mormon friends who have kids out on missions and their friends told them that if they ever have a chance, feed the missionaries. And so that is why they had us over. They are such a sweet family that I am really looking forward to working with. They are very open and we can tell already that they are a strong family. I hope y'all had a great valentines day! I know we did with finding the L family! Hurrah for Israel!

Lots of lessons!

This week has been amazing!! We taught Sis. "V" again and she is doing great! She started reading the Testimony of Joseph Smith and she even came to church without her husband who was not feeling well. And it was perfect because the talks that were given during sacrament were about gaining a testimony about the Book of Mormon and the spirit was so strong!! We were also able to teach the "L" family this week and talked about keeping the sabbath day holy and Sis. "L" still will not commit to come :( but we are making progress with them! I got to go on exchanges with our District leader; Elder Kunz, and speak spanish! We had a crazy dinner. We walk in and on the tv they have telemundo news going on and they are showing a plane crashing in Tawain or something. And after that there was nothing but negative comments about the world. I hope y'all have a great week!!!

I met Elder Nelson!

Well this week was something that is hard to explain. Elder Grosh got sick so we were not able to go out and work which was really difficult. After a short period of time it is not so much fun. But the exciting part of the week was that Elder Russell M. Nelson came to the mission and he spoke to us. And I got to shake his hand!! :) We got in a line with the rest of the mission and then when I shook his hand he even looked at my name tag and said my name! It was awesome!! After listening to him speak to us we were on a spiritual high. He spoke to us about being who God has called us to be and the potential that we have. What a wonderful experience!! He is an Apostle of the Lord and is inspired!

Another transfer in Braun Heights

Well today is the start of my 4th transfer here in the Braun Heights ward and this week we have made a lot of progress with people. Last Monday we were able to teach the "V" family (couple). The husband is less active and the wife is not a member, but she has mentioned that she does want to be baptized. So we started teaching her last Monday and they both came to church on Sunday which was amazing!!! She already has a lot of friends and so we are hoping for more progress! As well we met with "P" this week and so far she is doing very well and the only problem is that she does not want to stop smoking right now so we have a process ahead of us.

The new Elder in the apartment is Elder Craner from Idaho, he is pretty cool. This will be a fun transfer!!

Fear Factor eating....

Hola a todos! Elder Grosh and I will both be staying here in Braun Heights for this upcoming transfer! Number 4 here I come! This week went pretty well. We has a dinner with the "L" family and were able to share the Restoration with the non-member husband. He is super Catholic and so it was a little hard teaching him. He is really friendly and non-bashy (thank goodness) he just closes himself off. Even so it was a nice reminder for Sis. L and her mom. As well we met with "P" yesterday and had a great lesson about the Sabbath day and keeping it holy and coming to church next week. As well we met with these two guys; J and V. They were outside their house and we had spoken with J before and he loved it. So we shared the Restoration with them and we were not able to get them to commit to anything but they want us to stop by again. 

Funny story for the week. We went to teach "P" last night and we show up at her mom's and they are eating baby eels....and well.... we had to try it.....
